A. A variety of tasks are done by accounts, audit is a big one, but accounts transactions, forcasting and even just data entry happen. To be honest, accounting is not a thrilling career but i can be a profitable one. So you know an accountant is different from a cpa. Cpas, need much more education, (usually a masters), must mantain educatoin, not violate the standards of the cpa title, get public work exp and pass the cpa exam which is on the same standard as the bar exam in difficulty. CPAs, do usually make more than a standard accountant. I =really can't tell you any famous cpas, but i will say that accountants have often moved up into higher ranking execuative positions often. The top 4 accounting companies, often referred to as the big 4 include: pricewaterhousecooper Earnst and young KPMG Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu

Q. I am a practicing certified public accountant. I am currently under International Financial Reporting Standards. Q. I am a NY cpa witha small pratice, we have been using accountants world software called accoutants relif and are 85% satisfied, we also used their After the fact paroll andwere 75% satisfied last year, but this quarter it has been a nightmare. I would like to know what other accounting and integrated after the fact payroll software maybe avaible ? thanks

A. We do very little payroll work, so we generally use QuickBooks or Excel to keep track of payroll for clients, depending if we are keeping up with their books as well. I generally fill in the PDF version of 940 and 941 reports and file the TX reports online. I use W-2 Mate or LazerLink for W-2/W-3 and 1099/1096 prep. For bookkeeping, we use QuickBooks or Peachtree, but mostly QuickBooks. Like I said, we do not prepare many payroll returns, so we are not set up for high volume processing. Our bookkeeping is minimal as well, since we mainly focus on IRS representation.

A. Yes, it is a definite scam. The work is to receive checks ( which will be forgeries or stolen ), and deposit them into your account, then send checks out to them or their friends. When the forgeries are discovered, the bank will come after you to make good, and will also press charges against you for fraudulent check cashing. Of course, the checks you sent out fro your account will be cashed quickly and your account will be drained before the bank finds out the checks you deposited are forgeries. You would be very wise to listen to the advice on this forum and avoid this thing.

Q. Am a sub-contractor who employs 2-3 helpers for a flooring business. After this past tax time, I've learned my lesson about paying cash and keeping no payroll records. Also need to find a better way of keeping up with deductible expenses (other than a glove box full of receipts!) for materials, etc. There are so many options out there, and I'd hate to waste hundreds of dollars for services I really don't need. I just need to make payroll checks, occasionally print invoices and receipts for side jobs, and anything that will make next year's tax time less of a headache!
